The effect of r-mode instability on the evolution of isolated strange stars

چکیده
We studied the evolution of isolated strange stars (SSs) synthetically, considering the influence of r-mode instability. Our results show that the cooling of SSs with nonultrastrong magnetic fields is delayed by heating due to r-mode damping for millions of years, while the spin-down of the stars is dominated by gravitational radiation (GR). Especially for the SSs in a possible existing colour-flavour locked (CFL) phase, the effect of r-mode instability on the evolution of stars becomes extremely important because the viscosity, neutrino emissivity and specific heat involving pairing quarks are blocked. It leads to the cooling of these colour superconducting stars being very slow and the stars can remain at high temperature for millions of years, which differs completely from previous understanding. In this case, an SS in CFL phase can be located at the bottom of its r-mode instability window for a long time, but does not spin-down to a very low frequency for hours.

متن کاملStrange stars as persistent sources of gravitational waves
We investigate the relevance of the gravitational-wave driven r-mode instability for strange stars. We find that the unstable r-modes affect strange stars in a way that is quite distinct from the neutron star case. For accreting strange stars we show that the onset of r-mode instability does not lead to the thermo-gravitational runaway that is likely to occur in neutron stars. Instead, the stra...

The quarks are regarded as quasiparticles, which acquire an effective mass generated by the interaction with the other quarks of the dense system. The bulk viscosity is re-expressed in the case of interacting strange quark matter. We find that the viscosity is a few∼tens times larger than that of non-interacting quark gas due to the small correction of medium effect to the equation of state. Th...
متن کاملInvestigation of Scalar Modulation Instability in the Presence of Raman Scattering in Photonic Crystal Fibers
In this paper, by including Raman scattering in the coupled-mode equations, the scalar modulation instability in photonic crystal fibers is investigated. The evolution of the pump, Stokes and anti-Stokes waves along the fiber as well as the conversion efficiency for two cases, with and without Raman effect, are studied. The effect of anti-Stokes seed and the pump depletion on the evolution of S...
متن کاملAn Astronomical Evidence of Existence of Quark Matter and the Prediction for Submillisecond Pulsars
We derive the bulk viscous time scale of neutron stars with quark matter core, i.e. hybrid stars. The r-mode instability windows of the stars show the theoretical result accords with the rapid rotation pulsar data. The fit gives a strong indication for the existence of quark matter in the interior of neutron stars. Hybrid stars instead of neutron or strange stars may result in submillisecond pu...
